Epictetus taught his students to sort the world into two piles: what is up to you, and what is not. The Control the Response Framed Canvas is Stoic motivational art built on that division — CONTROL THE RESPONSE in soft gold type, the line "Calm is power" beneath it, a classical bust and a faint compass geometry set back in near-black.
The design keeps almost everything in shadow. The bust emerges rather than announces itself, and the compass reads as structure behind the words instead of decoration around them. On a matte canvas the near-black stays black under lamplight rather than turning grey and shiny.

Care Instructions
Remove dust with a clean, soft cloth, barely damp if needed. Dark matte surfaces mark easily, so avoid sprays, solvents and any abrasive cloth, and keep the canvas clear of direct sun and steam.
Common Questions
Where does the idea come from?
From Epictetus and the dichotomy of control, restated in Marcus Aurelius. Events, other people and outcomes fall outside your control; your judgement and your reaction do not. "Calm is power" is the shorthand.
Will such a dark print disappear on a dark wall?
The gold lettering carries the contrast, so the words hold up well against charcoal or navy walls. If the wall is very dark, a white or natural frame gives the piece a defined edge.
What size works above a desk?
16″ × 16″ or 20″ × 20″ sits comfortably above a standard desk or credenza. 6″ to 12″ suits a shelf, a bedside table or a tight alcove.
Does it need special lighting?
No. The matte finish is designed to work under normal room lighting; a directional lamp will lift the gold, but it is not required.

Does it arrive ready to hang?
Yes. The canvas arrives stretched over its pine frame with hanging hardware already fitted, plus rubber dots on the reverse so it sits flat against the wall. No framing required.
Is it framed, or a stretched canvas?
It is a stretched canvas, not a framed print. The artwork wraps a solid pine stretcher bar and hangs as a clean-edged block with no outer frame.
Will the colours fade?
The canvas is printed with fade-resistant inks and finished with an archival-quality matte coating. As with any artwork, keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve it longest.
When will it arrive, and can I return it?
Every piece is made to order, so your total wait is production time plus delivery. Orders are produced and dispatched within 2–7 business days.
Delivery then typically takes 3–7 business days in the UK, 7–14 across the EU, 5–15 in the US and Canada, and 10–20 for Australia, New Zealand and other destinations. Every order ships with tracking, and we email you the details the moment it leaves the production facility.
If it is not right, you have 30 days from delivery to request a return for any reason, including change of mind — see our Returns & Refunds Policy. If a canvas arrives damaged, send us a photograph and we will replace it or refund you in full, with nothing to send back.
Where is it made, and will I pay customs charges?
Most orders are printed and shipped inside your own region — UK orders in the UK, EU orders within the EU, US orders within the US — so they arrive as a normal domestic delivery with no customs charges to pay.
Occasionally an item is produced elsewhere, for example when a particular size or colour is only available from another facility. Your tracking will show where it shipped from, and any import charges in that case are set by your own country's customs authority rather than by us.
