First Principles Framed Canvas – Classical Philosophy Art
From $69.00
Strip an argument back far enough and you reach the propositions that cannot be derived from anything else. Aristotle called them the first things known in themselves, and the method he built on them — reason up from what cannot be broken down further, not sideways from what everyone assumes — is still the most useful idea in the Organon. The First Principles Framed Canvas gives that discipline a form, as classical philosophy wall art with a marble figure at its centre.
The statue stands against a muted black ground, flanked by drawn architectural motifs and a line of gold-accented type. The gold is warm and slightly tarnished rather than bright, so the piece sits with wood, brass and leather instead of fighting them. Nothing about the composition is loud; it takes a wall without dominating the room it is in.
Studies and offices are the obvious homes for it. It also works in an entrance hall, where a single square print above a console table does more than a row of small frames.

Common Questions
What does first principles thinking mean?
Breaking a problem down to the facts that cannot be reduced any further, then rebuilding from there instead of copying how it has always been done. Aristotle set out the idea in the Posterior Analytics; it has since been adopted well beyond philosophy, in physics, engineering and business.
Is the artwork of a specific philosopher?
No. The figure is a classical marble in the general style of Greek and Roman portrait sculpture rather than a named likeness, chosen to carry the idea rather than to identify a person.
Will it pair with the other philosophy canvases?
Yes. The range shares a palette of near-black grounds and aged gold, and all pieces come in the same eleven square sizes, so two or three hung in a row line up cleanly.

Choosing a Size
Available sizes are listed in the size selector above. As a rule, a canvas should span roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture it hangs over — measure the wall before choosing, and mark the outline with masking tape if you are between two sizes.

Canvas Questions
Quick answers to the things people ask most.
Does it arrive ready to hang?
Yes. The canvas arrives stretched over its pine frame with hanging hardware already fitted, plus rubber dots on the reverse so it sits flat against the wall. No framing required.
Is it framed, or a stretched canvas?
It is a stretched canvas, not a framed print. The artwork wraps a solid pine stretcher bar and hangs as a clean-edged block with no outer frame.
Will the colours fade?
The canvas is printed with fade-resistant inks and finished with an archival-quality matte coating. As with any artwork, keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve it longest.
When will it arrive, and can I return it?
Every piece is made to order, so your total wait is production time plus delivery. Orders are produced and dispatched within 2–7 business days.
Delivery then typically takes 3–7 business days in the UK, 7–14 across the EU, 5–15 in the US and Canada, and 10–20 for Australia, New Zealand and other destinations. Every order ships with tracking, and we email you the details the moment it leaves the production facility.
If it is not right, you have 30 days from delivery to request a return for any reason, including change of mind — see our Returns & Refunds Policy. If a canvas arrives damaged, send us a photograph and we will replace it or refund you in full, with nothing to send back.
Where is it made, and will I pay customs charges?
Most orders are printed and shipped inside your own region — UK orders in the UK, EU orders within the EU, US orders within the US — so they arrive as a normal domestic delivery with no customs charges to pay.
Occasionally an item is produced elsewhere, for example when a particular size or colour is only available from another facility. Your tracking will show where it shipped from, and any import charges in that case are set by your own country's customs authority rather than by us.
